What is a merchant account?
A merchant account is an account that a merchant opens with a local bank to receive payment for transactions from customers.

How long does it take to setup a merchant account?
It will take a maximum of 30 minutes with VMS. Provided the following documents have been submitted:

  1. A signed and completed application
  2. A Voided Check – signifying where the deposits should be made unto from the credit cards transactions that were processed
  3. A business license or a utility bill - confirming the validity of the business
  4. A clear copy of driver license - confirming the identity of the applicant

How long does it take to get my account set up and to start processing credit cards?

Can I use someone else's merchant account to do my transactions?
No, this is an illegal practice known as "credit card laundering" or "factoring." Using someone else's merchant account to do you credit card transactions can lead to hefty fines.

What kind of processing solutions are available?

What credit cards can I accept?
All issued Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diner's Club, JCB and All Debit networks, Voyager, Wright Express, and Fuelman; if you have questions regarding any other card that may not be listed feel free to contact us directly.

When are my funds available?
It will take between 24-48 hours from the time you have closed out your terminal (batched) for money from credit card purchases to show up in your account.

Currently, I have a retail store where I swipe my credit cards, soon I will be selling items online. Will my rates be higher if I sell online?
Yes, at VMS we understand that the merchants’ demands differ one year to the next. Therefore, we urge our merchants to contact us in order to facilitate the right program for their shifting business model. Since your business was set up as retail store conducting business face-to-face any variance from this norm will cause discrepancies. You must contact VMS in order to update your account and place you in the right program to avoid such misfortune.
